Scottish Ecological Design Association

In collaboration with Fionn Stevenson of the University of Dundee, Locate Architects were commissioned by the Scottish Ecological Design Association to prepare the first of three detailing guides which examine common commercial details and offer costed and approved alternatives which improve the environmental performance of the detail without significant deviation from the original or cost penalty.

This first guide looks at the issue of design for de-construction and waste reduction, for re-use of components and materials and for longevity of buildings overall. The guide gives generic guidance but importantly also offers alternative details which have been accepted by Latent Defect Assessors and Insurers.

The guidance is downloadable in full or in part. Locate have also completed the second guide which addresses issues of airtightness.
