Starting with a simple discussion about damp in the property after aflood, this quickly developed into a full-blown refurbishment project involving a comprehensive overhaul of the building fabric and services. We also agreed the removal of an unsympathetic extension which blocks out light to the centre of the original cottage. Our proposals open up the centre of the property with extensive glazing to flood the interior with light and direct access to the enclosed South-facing garden. The roof and floors will be highly insulated and the walls upgraded and protected, with a number of other measures to restore the cottage to its former glory and ensure its longevity well into the future. Working with Mark Dowey of Module Architects, the building was successfully completed late in 2013 and now provides a stunning and bijou private house for rent. |
