Killin and the surrounding area is a very important tourist destination along the well-worn A85 road to Oban, Fort William and the West Coast. However, the two existing public toilets are due to be permanently closed by Stirling Council who are no longer obliged to maintain them.

Following detailed background research into the need for public toilets in the area, Killin and Ardeonaig Community Development Trust commissioned SKS Scotland (with Chris Morgan working under the auspices of SKS) to deliver a feasibility study into the provision of new or refubished facilities in Killin, producing a model for sustainable public toilets in remote rural areas.

Taking into account a broad array of requirements and aspirations, we undertook an extensive survey and interview process across a range of stakeholders to clarify the nature, location and scale of any proposed provision, along with, crucially, a complementary sustainable financial model. We prepared two costed options, shown right which also took account of varying access needs. The completed report is available here.
