A fast-track project to develop a prototype public toilet
block for 26 towns in the Far North District of New Zealand. Whilst working
for Martyn Evans, an Architect in Keri Keri, Chris
was entirely responsible for the design and procurement of the first two
blocks, for the towns of Kaikohe and Pahia.
The blocks, costing about £35,000 each (excluding
preparatory works) were designed to be robust and resistant to vandalism,
with all walls, structure and fitments being made almost entirely of enamel
coated sheet steel. Chris was responsible for all planning, building warrant
and fabrication drawings, liaising directly with steelwork fabricators
and dealing with adjustments as the design was built.
