Locate Architects have been commissioned by Edict to prepare drawings for new allotments in Kirkintilloch, along with a building for the members and storage.

The building will feature walls of straw bales, with large areas of glazing for passive solar gain and plenty of day- and sunlight. The roof is extra large to collect water for the allotments, and provide working spaces under shelter. Greenhouses have been integrated with the main building and there will be a compost toilet for the use of the members. Finishes inside the building will be all natural but robust, with tiled flooring, clay and lime plasters, timber joinery and plant and mineral based paints.

Recycling and composting facilities for the whole area will be integrated within the landscaping strategy. The project is is due to start on site early next year.
